My mother tongue is Spanish, I guess you understand that learning languages other than itself needs a large investment of time and money (to study in other countries, many attend language classes, and so on).
To avoid all this has been devised the language Esperanto, with the idea that language is universal. Each would continue speaking their own language but use Esperanto to communicate with people of different origins.
Agencies like the UN or the European institutions should have an easy as the official language for everybody: Esperanto.
If someone wants to learn other languages can do it, but it will be something cultural, like learning history or art. And not by a cultural imposition of some over others.
