Resumen:
Elisabeth Bott (1957), among the founders of the Manchester School, studied marital role segregation and the interconnectedness of the social networks of the partners. More recently, the psychological research has been oriented towards social support and stress models: Social Support in Couples (Cutrona, 1996), just to mention only one, is still a must-read in this area. These studies provide fine-tuned concepts and tools for the study of relationships (Grossetti, 2009) that would be useful to understanding the establishment of equitable couple relationships.
Recent efforts in social network analysis are interested in the definition of the relations. The traditional focus on the structure of interactions is complemented with an examination of the content, taking notice of shared history and reciprocal commitment, among other relational processes. To build an equitable couple requires relational responsibility, empathy and competences for managing emotions in both partners.
