Resumen:
As it is presented in the preface, this is the first “comprehensive text that meets the broader needs of the public-health community, including researchers, academics, and practitioners” (p. xvii). Certainly, the handbook by France Dunn Butterfoss is a useful source providing an overview and up-to-date review of the literature on community coalitions and alliances, focusing on organizational processes.

“The research on community coalitions and community participation has also experienced significant development in the last decade. In my opinion, the expansion of this area coincides with the interest in the process of implementation and in the incorporation of scientific models, strategies and tools by communities. Coalitions and partnerships contribute to the dissemination of strategies among the population; they are also related to the level of community readiness and the motivation for change; and they provide an organizational interface between the technical and conceptual design of social interventions and the particulars of community change.” (…)
